Last month, Honey Maid, the maker of graham crackers and Teddy Grahams, debuted a new ad campaign called “This Is Wholesome.” The commercial featured loving images of gay and interracial families. The sweet 30 seconds of TV time predictably outraged homophobic groups like One Million Moms (which, it should be noted, only has 64,000 followers on Facebook). Angry letters were sent. Boycott threats were made. And then Honey Maid did something awesome: instead of bowing down to the homophobes, they actually stood behind their message of tolerance and inclusion in a really beautiful way, hiring two artists to transform the hateful response into an inspiring message of love. The result is this video, a powerful reminder that the tides are turning, and hate is losing. I’ve watched it three times, cried three times, and now I really want some chocolate chip Teddy Grahams. Honey Maid: mission accomplished!
