Destiny’s Child alum Michelle Williams is taking her talents back to Broadway for the revival of “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
On Friday, the singer/actress announced the big news on “Good Morning America,” noting that the rock opera will also star John Lydon, Ben Foster, Incubus’ Brandon Boyd and ‘N Sync’s JC Chasez.
The show, being billed as “an arena rock spectacular,” will feature Williams as Mary Magdalene and follow Jesus’ final days leading up to his crucifixion.
The original production earned five Tony Award nominations before going on to inspire the 1973 film adaptation. The show staged a revival in 2012 under the direction of Des McAnuff.
Williams’ stage credits include “Aida,” “The Color Purple,” “Chicago,” “What My Husband Don’t Know” and “Fela!”.
“Jesus Christ Superstar” will kick off its 50-city tour June 9 in New Orleans.
