Oscar-winning actress Mo’Nique and former Danity Kane member D. Woods will co-star in an indie movie adaptation of Larry Duplechan novel, Blackbird.
Mo’Nique and Isaiah Washington will play the parents of Randy Rousseau (Julian Walker), a gay teen struggling with his sexuality and his religious, conservative Mississippi family. “Blackbird is a film about the choices people are forced to make as they struggle to figure out how to be themselves,” executive producer and Mo’Nique’s husband Sidney Hicks said. Mo’Nique will also executive produce the film alongside her husband’s media company, Hicks Media. Patrick Ian Polk will direct.
Blackbird will premiere February 16, 2014 at the Pan African Film Fest at Rave Cinemas in Los Angeles.
