Congratulations are in order for British soul singer Adele as her sophomore album 21 has reached “diamond” status, selling more than 10 million copies in the United States. The album reached the incredible milestone last week just before its two-year anniversary in January.
Ironically, it is the 21st album to receive the diamond title since the Nielsen SoundScan began tracking in 1991.
21 features chart-topping hits that include “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” “Set Fire to the Rain” and more.
And although the record dropped out the top 10 album charts after 78 weeks, Adele’s second effort still sits in the top 50 (No. 31, to be exact) on the Billboard charts after 92 weeks.
Adele joins Usher (Confessions), The Beatles (1), Alanis Morissette (Jagged Little Pill), The Bodyguard soundtrack featuring Whitney Houston and others with more than 10 million records sold nationally.
