Tyler Perry is in hot water this week with a lawsuit that claims he stole the plot of his 2012 movie Good Deeds from author Terri Donald, who also writes uner the pseudonym TLO Red’ness.
Donald says her 2007 book “Bad Apples Can Be Good Fruit” was sent to the 43-year-old actor/director before production of the movie began, which allegedly follows a familiar storyline. The drama centers around Perry, a wealthy business man, who meets a struggling mother and her daughter who change his life forever.
Donald has now filed a lawsuit in Philadelphia against Perry and Lions Gate Entertainment for the film’s similarities.

Donald is reportedly seeking $225,000 in initial damages and an injunction the requires the company to add a credit to her book in the opening and closing credits. She is also requesting the company to provide an accounting of the movie’s revenues.
Reps for Perry and Lions Gate Entertainment have yet to comment on the lawsuit.
Good Deeds earned approximately $35 million at the box office this year.
