According to NBC4NY’s Andrew Siff, the ING New York City Marathon scheduled for November 4 has been cancelled.
Until now, Mayor Bloomberg was deadset on moving forward with the event – despite the devastation from Sandy, particularly in Staten Island, where the race was meant to begin.
There is no official word at this time on whether the event is to be rescheduled for another date.
The mayor’s office (@NYCMayorsOffice) confirmed the cancellation via Twitter, stating:
“We have decided to cancel the NYC marathon. The New York Road Runners will have additional information in days ahead for participants.”
