A Dallas cop was recently fired for ignoring a woman begging for help for her kidnapped children. On August 25, Officer Les Richardson was responding to a burglary call when dispatchers announced shots were fired and a suspect rammed into a woman’s car in the vicinity Richardson was driving in.
He then drove past a woman who was shouting, “That’s him, that’s him, right there!”
“Right here what, baby? I’m on a call,” Richardson said, before driving off. The interaction was captured by his dash cam. Richardson, 61, is also shown smoking in his car, a violation of department policy.
The victim was referring to Steven Douglas, who kidnapped the woman’s two children at gunpoint. Douglas was later killed by police after a brief car chase and pointing a gun at an officer. The children, aged nine and one, were returned unharmed.
The four allegations against Richardson were: dereliction of duty, improper comments, failure to immediately clear upon the completion of a call and use of tobacco products in a city vehicle.
He had been on the police force since 1986.
