The NYPD arrested an ex-convict last night in Queens, New York for murdering a young boy and critically injuring a young girl with a knife in a Brooklyn apartment elevator. Police say cell phone tracking and DNA were used to locate and eventually arrest the 27-year-old suspect, Daniel St. Hubert.
In an apartment building elevator, St. Hubert allegedly stabbed 6-year-old Prince Joshua Avitto to death with a steak knife. He used the same weapon to critically injure the young boy’s friend, 7-year-old Mikayla Capers, who he stabbed 16 times.
This is not the first run in with the law for St. Hubert. He has an extensive criminal record that includes nine arrests, serving time for attempted murder, and assaulting a police officer.
Police were able to use DNA St. Hubert left on the weapon and his cell phone number to track him down in South Ozone Park, Queens. The NYPD released photos of the suspect so that investigators in the vicinity could easily search for him. These efforts proved successful.
After the arrest, the boy’s mother, Aricka McClinton, went to the 75th Precinct to give thanks to the investigative team. She hopes that justice is served for her little boy’s death. “They got that bastard, and that bastard is going to hell,” she said.
The funeral for Prince Joshua (P.J.) Avitto is planned for Friday.
