As pop superstar Rihanna looks for her next major movie role, rumors are circulating she has been avoiding a meeting with Madea’s alter ego, Tyler Perry.
The advice of Whitney Houston to the Umbrella singer at a party before her untimely 2012 death has prohibited the edgy chanteuse from accepting any of Perry’s movie role offers. According to the source, Houston declared Perry’s romantic comedies were for fading black stars, not rising ones or has-been’s.
“Although Tyler has been courting Rihanna for a year and a half, hoping to build a movie around her, she has rejected the idea,” a source close to the star’s business affairs said.
Rihanna debuted her acting chops in the 2012 science fiction war film, Battleship, where she received rave performance reviews. A source revealed the rebellious singer is under a mandate to complete another studio film by years end.
“She’s ruling out doing a Tyler Perry-style romantic comedy because she thinks she works better in action roles, playing the tough girl,” the source confirmed.
Perry’s most recent effort, The Single Mom’s Club starring Nia Long flopped, a first for the popular filmaker since his directorial debut. Tyler Perry has taken a break from producing and directing his own movies to concentrate on his multiple OWN TV series.
