What are the odds? A couple won the lottery three times in one month, and two of the jackpots were for $1 million.
Portsmouth, Virginia residents Calvin and Zatera Spencer’s rare stroke of good fortune started on March 12 in the Powerball game. They won $1 million, even though they only matched the first five numbers and missed the Powerball.
Their streak continued on March 26, when Calvin won $50,000 with 10 tickets in the Virginia Pick 4 game. The winning combination on each ticket? 6-6-6-6, which carried a prize of $5,000 for each of the 10 tickets.
Just one day later, the lucky couple won a million dollars in the $100 Million Cash Extravaganza scratch-off game. The Spencers, who are now instant millionaires, chose the one-time lump sum of $681,000 after taxes, for the $100 Million Dollar Cash Extravangana prize. The other option was to receive the money as an annuity paid out over a 30-year span.
Calvin Spencer optimistically said, “We’re not done yet.”
