Bad grandpa? This time, not quite.
An 82-year-old Detroit man fought off a home invader by bashing him in the head with a hammer.
“I asked him to leave,” George Bradford told WJBK. But when the man didn’t leave, “that’s when I let him have it.”
The heroic grandfather told local television stations that he awoke to his daughter and granddaughter screaming for help on Sunday morning. In pursuit of his family, he eventually found a man who’d snuck into their home through the basement window.
According to a report in the Detroit Free Press, the incident at the Bradford home follows a series of others where homeowners users excessive force — sometimes deadly — during home break-ins.
Last week, a 17-year-old intruder was fatally shot after breaking into a home in the city’s west side. Additionally, another person was shot and killed after breaking into a home in Detroit’s West Side in February.
