Author/poet Maya Angelou, Motown Records founder Berry Gordy and football legend Jim Brown are set to be rewarded for their efforts in promoting equal rights.
On Thursday (Feb. 27), Major League Baseball announced the trio will be honored at the 2014 MLB Beacon Awards Luncheon on May 30 in Houston. “Good Morning America” co-host Robin Roberts will serve as this year’s keynote speaker.
Performers will include Grammy-winning violinist Miri Ben-Ari and “Wake Me Up” singer Aloe Blacc.
The event will be followed by the annual Civil Rights Game where the Houston Astros will host the Baltimore Orioles. The match will air on the MLB Network.
Past honorees include Aretha Franklin, Bo Jackson, Hank Aaron, Muhammad Ali, Harry Belafonte, Morgan Freeman and others.
