Pharrell Williams didn’t expect any backlash when he released the cover for his single, “Girl.”
Still, plenty of people were offended at what they perceived as a “lack of color” on his cover. Critics slammed the singer in articles on the subject and twitter fans were in a frenzy on the supposed diss.
In a recent interview with YBF, Pharrell fires back at his haters.
It turns out, there is indeed a black woman on the cover and Pharrell turns the table on critics by asking why they were so quick to presume someone’s ethnicity.
“Well, they’re ill informed. The woman I’m standing closest to, she is black and she’s been a friend of mine for a long time. You know, I’m confused by it,” he said.
“Then they’re going to ask me do I not have an Indian woman on there or a Pakistani woman on there? But meanwhile, I do. She is African American and I feel sorry for her that people will look her dead in her face like she ain’t black but she is black.”
