However, Atlanta is not the only southern city reeling after Snowmaggedon impacted the U.S. Blankets of ice cover the south after Winter Storm Leon’s arrival Tuesday.

The storm claimed the lives of at least six people, stranded children in schools overnight, and paralyzed travel in several states. Given ample time to prepare, North Carolina’s roadways were covered in salt and sand in the early hours of Tuesday.

Some areas weren’t so lucky, where some drivers have been stuck in their vehicles for more than 24 hours with temperatures plunging into the teens. The National Guard was present, delivering food, water, and gas, as well as rides in Humvees to people who were stuck on roads in Georgia. The storm reportedly only brought a couple of inches of snow yet caused over 1,000 motor vehicle accidents in Georgia and Alabama.
