Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has finally let the cat out of the bag and revealed that Aaron McGruder’s “The Boondocks” will return April 21. The popular animated series stars Regina King, John Witherspoon, Gary Anthony Williams, Gabby Soleil, Cedric Yarbrough, and Jill Talley.
Many fans thought “The Boondocks” would return on January 4, 2014 based upon scheduling on the website, but were crushed when it turned out to be a rerun.
The animated series, based upon the cartoon strip of the same title, premiered on November 6, 2005 and the most recent season ended August 15, 2010. In the three-plus years since the “end” of the show, fans have petitioned for a fourth season and swarmed McGruder with questions on bringing back the series. Fans even supported a Kickstarter campaign for an Uncle Ruckus movie, which was proposed by McGruder. The campaign didn’t reach the $200,000 goal and ended March 1, 2013. The corresponding Facebook page hasn’t received any updates since February 2013.
With all the rumored release dates, hopefully this date sticks and we’ll be laughing until we cry.
