Police say a Louisiana teen killed his mother Tamila Wooley and told his siblings she was sick, WAFB reports.
Thirty-four-year-old Wooley’s body was discovered by a family friend in her bedroom on New Year’s Day said Walker, LA Police Capt. John Sharp. When police arrived on the scene, they discovered she suffered multiple gunshot wounds and had been dead for two or more days. They noticed that her black Lexus Sedan was missing, as was her 17-year-old son, Eddie Robert Island.
Witnesses say they saw Island driving the Lexus. Law enforcement noted that the teen was not licensed or authorized to use the vehicle.
Around 2 a.m. Thursday morning, police performed a traffic stop on the Lexus and identified the teen as the sole driver of the vehicle. He was then detained for questioning.
“During questioning, Mr. Island confessed to shooting his mother late the night of Sunday, December 29th, or early in the morning Monday, December 30th,” said police. “After obtaining a confession from Mr. Island, he was transported to the Livingston Parish Detention Center and charged with second degree murder.”
In his confession, he explained he returned home for several days to attend to the children’s needs. He told his younger half-brother and half-sister that their mother was sick and not to disturb her. The two younger siblings, ages 2 and 11, were found unharmed. They are now placed in the custody of the state, until relatives arrive, said Capt. Sharp.
The teen was then booked and charged with second-degree murder.
The Associated Press noted they do not generally name juveniles who are accused of crimes.
