Serena Williams just won her fifth U.S. Open title, bringing her total number of grand slam titles to 17. She has been the reigning queen of tennis, and with winning her second French Open and fifth U.S. Open in the year of 2013, Williams is showing no signs of slowing down.
The New York Times reports that “she did not know if she would continue her heavier schedule, that it would depend on how she felt and if she kept enjoying it. Either way, she does not sound like someone winding down her career.” Williams also told the newspaper, “I haven’t thought of a number or an age when I want to stop, I can tell you this: I don’t see myself retiring anytime soon.”
It also sounds like the queen enjoys her reign as the No. 1 player in the world. “Honestly, I wanted to be No. 1. In order to get that, you have to play a lot of tournaments,” Williams says.
One thing is for certain, Williams seems like she still has a lot of tennis left in her, which means more history-making and ground-breaking moments for the sport of tennis.
