It hasn’t been the best week for singer Lauryn Hill. Early this week, she explained that she stopped paying taxes after withdrawing from society a few years ago when considerable threats were made against her family. It resulted in her now guilty plea for not “paying federal taxes on more than $1.5 million over three years,” according to the Huffington Post.
Now, the eight-time Grammy award winner is also being sued by her landlord for eviction. According to TMZ, the landlord of Hill’s South Orange, NJ mansion filed an eviction lawsuit after Hill failed to pay last month’s rent. Documents obtained by TMZ state that Hill has been renting the mansion since 2009.
Reports of the compounding drama serve as a mere prelude to Hill’s upcoming April 22nd tax evasion sentencing. She faces up to one year in prison and $100,000 in fines for each count.
