Boyz II Men has been hired by Russian President Vladimir Putin to help boost the country’s population just in time for some Valentine’s Day inspiration.

According to The Moscow Times, President Putin has asked the number one-selling R&B group to perform a string of their most romantic ballads like “I’ll Make Love To You.” The request is part of Putin’s three-year plan to raise the country’s birth rate to 3 children per household. Putin has been quoted as saying, he sees his plan as the “the key to [Russia's] national security.”

As a result, Boyz II Men will hit the stage in Moscow on February 6th. In 2007, Putin also offered cash incentives and declared September 12th “National Day of Conception” to encourage citizens to build larger families.

Courtesy of CNN– The Obama administration proposed updated guidelines on Friday that would allow religious-affiliated organizations opposing contraception to opt out of a federal mandate requiring that they provide their employees with insurance coverage for birth control.

The draft rule would give women at non-profit, religious-based organizations, like certain hospitals and universities, the ability to receive contraception through separate health policies at no charge.

The compromise is consistent with last year’s announcement by President Barack Obama on the contraception mandate, administration officials said.

It also continues his administration’s attempts to resolve the contentious issue of how non-profit organizations can decline to provide contraception coverage to their employees on religious grounds without facing a penalty.

The singer’s decided not to press charges against Brown after Brown allegedly “jumped” Ocean outside a Los Angeles recording studio apparently over a parking spot.

After taking to Twitter to tweet the incident as well as his injury, a cut finger, Ocean posted yet another mention regarding the brawl, this time to his Tumblr.

According to a lawsuit filed Friday, Carolyn Hommel claims she was hired in 2010 as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions at Oprah’s OWN network. Hommel claims she was told she was on-track to become a VP, but says things took a sudden turn when she became pregnant.

According to Hommel … her duties were slowly transferred to a temporary employee and she was excluded from meetings when she returned from medical leave. Hommel claims she was let go ONE MONTH after giving birth and told to re-apply for the VP gig … only to be passed over.

Mark your calendars: Robin Roberts is back!

ABC News says the Good Morning America co-host will head back to the anchor desk on Feb. 20, just five months to the day since her bone marrow transplant in September. She received the operation to treat the rare blood disorder MDS.

“What a difference a year makes,” she said in a statement. On her official Twitter page, Roberts expressed her excitement over her return and thanked fans for their prayers and support. She continued, “Heading to the beach to rest, reflect & count my blessings. XO.”

The 52-year-old personality was given the thumbs up by doctors after reaching a critical 100-day benchmark in December and began a series of “dry runs’ at the GMA studio in January.

Her last day on GMA was Aug. 30 before she started her medical leave.

We wish nothing but continued success for this phenomenal woman.

NEW YORK CITY— Celebs arrived at The Heart Truth 2013 Fashion Show at Hammerstein Ballroom on Wednesday (Feb. 6) to draw awareness to heart disease and help kick off New York Fashion Week. Gabby Douglas, Toni Braxton, Kelly Osbourne and others were among the women sporting The Red Dress Collection, a tradition of the annual event.

“I feel like a doll in my dress,” Douglas told reporters. The 17-year-old Olympic gold medalist walked the runway later in the night in support of healthy hearts everywhere.

“I am participating because of the heart health cause. [...] I want young girls to think about it. I want to get the message out,” she said. “My advice to them is to stay active, eat healthy.”

Like everyone else in the country with excellent taste and a belly full of adult beverages, I very much enjoyed Beyoncé’s half-time performance at the Super Bowl on Sunday. I loved her all-woman band, particularly Bibi McGill’s spark-shooting axe. I loved the Destiny’s Child reunion. I loved that my Beyoncé half-time BINGO card included a square for “killing it,” which I ticked off within seconds of the show’s start.

And yet, my reaction to her post-halftime announcement of the upcoming “Mrs. Carter Show” tour was not to cheer her on in a post-feminist choose-your-choice fist-pump, but to huff: “Call me when Jay-Z goes on a Mr. Knowles tour.”

In an almost laughable email sent out by CBS Standard And Practice, the network has issued a “Wardrobe Advisory” for all artists in attendance at Sunday’s big show. Essentially, executives have asked this year’s attendees to keep it classy…

“Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare flesh under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic.”

The email goes on to warn artists of sheer see-through clothing to expose “female breast nipples” or the “genital region.” As for brand name products and obscenities, that’s a no-no as well.

Do we expect all of our beloved and “well-behaved” musicians to abide by the list of guidelines? No. But nice try, CBS.

I think the growth of online or “distance” learning is a very positive development and comes at an important time. A college education is more important than ever. The fastest-growing and best-paying jobs and careers increasingly require at least a two-year degree and often a full four-year degree. If you are a nontraditional learner — maybe you need to hold down a job while you’re pursuing a degree — online education might be just the ticket. (In fact, I am a member of the board of directors of an online school, Capella University.)

There are more and more nontraditional learners, and an increasing percentage of them are African American. Students ages 25 and older make up 33.5 percent of all undergraduates, but 83 percent of undergraduates in this age group are enrolled at exclusively online institutions. Among these online students, African Americans are well-represented. Black students account for 14 percent of all undergraduates but 20 percent of undergrads enrolled at exclusively online institutions.

Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, rapper-turned-actor Common and BET head honcho Debra Lee are teaming up with Coca-Cola for the soda giant’s 2013 “Pay It Forward” campaign to aid in the development of young people through a nationwide apprenticeship program.

All three stars and community leaders will help young adults aged 16 to 21 with career guidance and job shadowing during the summer. The program, now in its second year, will offer four apprenticeship experiences in the fields of business, music, community and media/entertainment.

“It’s a chance for young people to be with us, pick our brains and learn the craft,” Johnson told The Grio on Tuesday. “I want them to understand the professionalism, versatility and hard work. Young people forget we were once their age. We’re still connected to the streets, neighborhoods and communities through the work that we do.”

Common said he wants participants to experience the ups and downs of becoming successful, as well as the hard work and discipline that is essential to achieving a dream.

“I will personally be involved in overseeing the work they do,” he explained. “Beyond music, it’s important for me to reach back and create a legacy bigger than my career.

Anyone can nominate a young person for the “Pay It Forward” apprenticeship at mycokerewards.com through March 2. The program is a partnership with the United Negro College Fund.

First Lady Michelle Obama is expected to attend the funeral of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton who was gunned down last week in Chicago, according to a White House source.

The FLOTUS will reportedly travel to Chicago on Saturday to attend the service with Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

The King College Prep honors student was fatally shot Feb. 29 while huddling with a group of friends under a canopy at a local park during a rainstorm. Witnesses said an unidentified boy or man hopped a fence, opened fire on the group– striking Pendleton in the back– and then fled the scene. Police say she was not the intended target.

Pendleton, who performed at President Obama‘s inaugural events just a week earlier, was shot blocks from her school and about a mile from the president’s Chicago home.

A petition started shortly after Pendleton’s death requested President Obama to be in attendance. The young teen’s family pastor confirmed that the president called Hadiya’s parents to offer his condolences, stating, “We thank him for that, and if he does come that’s fine. If he doesn’t, we know he sends his love.”

The reward leading to her killer stands at $40,000.

Police spent all night searching the snowy mountains of Southern California but were unable to find the former Los Angeles police officer accused of carrying out a killing spree because he felt he was unfairly fired from his job.

Authorities planned a midmorning Friday news conference about 80 miles east of LA at Big Bear Lake, where Christopher Dorner’s torched pickup was found Thursday.

Local ski areas were open, but Bear Valley schoolchildren had the day off because of the manhunt.

About 150 miles to the south, up to 16 San Diego County sheriff’s deputies spent the night surrounding and searching a rural home after a hoaxer reported Dorner was there. There were people at home but Dorner wasn’t one of them, said Lt. Jason Rothlein. Investigators have a pretty good idea who made the call and will be seek criminal charges, he said.

Though the focus is on the resort area, the search for Dorner, 33, stretches across California, Nevada, Arizona and northern Mexico. LAPD officers are especially on edge because Dorner, who was fired from the force in 2008 after three years on the job, promised in rambling writings to bring “warfare” to police and their families.

A family has filed a lawsuit against the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, Calif. after an employee dressed as “The Rabbit” from Alice In Wonderland allegedly refused to hug their children because they were Black.

Jason Black Jr., 6, says he was denied a hug from his favorite character from the classic Disney film while other White children were given the opportunity to embrace him.

“I went to hug him but he turned his back,” Jason told Fox 40. “It’s made me feel sad because I wanted to really hug him.” His older brother Elijah Black, 9, says he also received the same treatment from The Rabbit.

“The Rabbit was turning his back on [Jason] like he didn’t want to touch him,” Elijah explained. “Then I went up and tried to hold his hand but he kept flicking my hand off.”

Since the incident, parents Jason Leroy Black Sr. and Annelia Black have exchanged correspondence with Disney and were asked to sign a confidentiality waiver in exchange for $500. Instead, the family has hired an attorney to help terminate the employee and has demanded an apology from Disney for discrimination.

“They’re not trying to get something they don’t deserve,” said their attorney Dan Gilleon. “In fact all they’ve asked for is a little bit of recognition that this should not have happened.”

Jason Sr. wants to see to it that this never happens to another child.

He added, “It’s about the principle and what are you going to do to make the situation better so this doesn’t happen to another family.”

A woman’s hair is her crowning glory — a truth no one knows more than custom wig designer and artist, Hadiiya Barbel. In fact the 33-year-old business woman calls her creations “crowns,” citing their ability to make a woman feel like royalty.

“I create transformative beauty,” Barbel says. “It’s the healing arts for many women.”

After years of creating and styling the detachable manes of celebrities such as daytime talk show host (and former boss) Wendy Williams, actress Angela Bassett, and singer Ashanti, the clients that Barbel is overjoyed to work with are those who stand to benefit the most from this “healing art”: women suffering hair loss from chemo, lupus, alopecia, or any number of health issues. She acts as a high priestess of self-esteem for what she calls “the new celebrity.”

“You know who she is?” she asks, barely able to contain her excitement. “[She is] the woman who has to balance the careers, the woman who loses [her] hair and [is] suffering to find [her] self-esteem again. She just found out that she has breast cancer and her hair is falling down in the shower as she’s washing her hair. But she still has to work, she still has to find a way to pull it together; she has to manage her family and she still has to believe in herself. That’s the new celebrity to me, not because what show she’s on or what gossip she’s talking about. It’s her ability to persevere.’

And Barbel knows from perseverance — she is a completely self-made woman juggling not only the rigors of managing a booming brand, but of single motherhood as well. She and her former husband started their family early, when Barbel was 20, “so I [could] grow with them,” she says. First-born Nawa, 13, was followed by Ahshar, 11, and Savannah, 6.

After years of nonstop work, Barbel’s devotion to her children and her own growth led her leave her plum — but hectic — position as Wendy Williams’s stylist in 2010, after winning a daytime Emmy for hairstyling. Now she’s moving on to the next chapter of her business, Hadiiya Barbel Collections.

“The work is no longer just styling people’s hair,” she says in awe. “Now it’s about bringing women together so we can feel good. Now people are coming and I shake their hands — ‘Hi, I’m Hadiiya Barbel’ — and they don’t let go.”

How do you feel about the way that your crowns make people feel?

It just shifts energy. You might have natural [hair], you might have a bald head because of alopecia or chemotherapy, you might be a Jewish woman, you might be a video vixen, you might be a career woman on the go, you might not have the time [to style your own hair]. You may not want to relax your hair, you may want to be Nicki Minaj for a day. You may want to look like Beyonce all the time. I don’t care whatever the reason is. You might want to try a new haircut, but you don’t want to compromise your own hair. It totally changes the persona of the person. It makes you feel like a rockstar! It makes you feel awesome. Why? Because you can do anything you want. It’s about happiness.
