Golden Globe nominees were announced Thursday morning by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and surprise, surprise: Denzel Washington is in the running.
The box office vet received a nomination in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture for his
outstanding role in the Robert Zemeckis-directed drama, Flight. Earlier this week Washington was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award and NAACP Image Award for his portrayal of the alcoholic, yet heroic, pilot.

Washington will face fellow actors Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln), Richard Gere (Arbitrage), John Hawkes (The Sessions) and Joaquin Phoenix (The Master) for the top honor.
Flight co-star Don Cheadle was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Comedy Or Musical) for his work on Showtime’s House of Lies. His competition includes Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Louis C.K. (Louis), Matt LeBlanc (Episodes) and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory).
Quentin Tarantino‘s critically acclaimed drama Django Unchained– starring Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and others– was recognized in several categories including Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role (DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz), Best Director and Best Motion Picture (Drama).
Rise of the Guardians director Peter Ramsey also scored a nod for Best Animated Film Feature against Brave, Frankenweenie, Wreck-it Ralph and Hotel Transylvania.
