Chewylou might sound more like a brand of saltwater taffy than a line of T-shirts, but trust us these Tees will feed your soul. Chewylou Designs founder Alyssa Dinowitz has a very simple mission: Encourage people to live positive lives while remaining spiritually strong.
She began the T-shirt line after her mother Marriann Gofonia was diagnosed with breast cancer, having realized that remaining positive was as important a treatment as chemotherapy and radiation. The comfy, lightweight shirts feature inspiring words such as: BELIEVE, JOY, GRATITUDE, KARMA, PEACE, and LIVE. The LIVE T-shirt was inspired by Dinowitz’s late mother and means “Love, Inspire, Value, and Embrace life.”
A percentage of the proceeds from shirt sales goes to charities Chewylou supports, which include The Lupus Foundation of America, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Best Friends Animal Rescue, and Chemo Champions, an organization founded by Dinowitz that pairs volunteer companions with patients in the chemo lounge. And, each T-shirt is printed by special needs adults at Michael’s Garden.
