Teamwork is the name of the game as Robert Townsend and the Miami Heat have partnered for a new basketball-themed romantic comedy.
Playin’ for Love, which is set to be directed and produced by Townsend, centers around a high school basketball coach and a single mother who comes in to shake things up. The film has garnered investors that include Basketball Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, the City of Miami, the aforementioned Heat, Jamba Juice, Doubletree Hotels and more. Auditions will be held in the city in early November to utilize local talent.

“When Commissioner Jones approached me about creating a project here in Miami to give the local community and beyond a message of hope, I signed on immediately,” Townsend said. “I was that kid from the ghetto. I know what we can do by reaching out to young people in Miami and showing them possibilities.”
Townsend recently finished production on In the Hive which stars Michael Clarke Duncan in his final role. The film hits theaters Dec. 7.
