Do you believe in magic?

We usually assign that belief to the children. Once we have experienced much of the world and its ways, the magic may seem to disappear.

About a week ago, I was picking my children up from camp. Rain was pouring down. My youngest son questions from his car seat, “Are we going in to get them?”

I knew he was dreading the walk across the street as much as I was. Just then, I remembered a technique I utilize in college when I forgot my umbrella. I would ask God to stop the rain until I arrived home. Honestly, I cannot remember a time that it did not work. I told my son about the technique and he tightly closed his eyes, “God, can you make the rain stop.”

Within a few seconds, the rain stopped. I was a little surprised that it worked, but I went along for the ride. He smiled, “It really worked Mommy!”

We ran across the street and picked up the girls. On our way back to the car, the rain began to pour down on us. We jumped into our respective seats and buckled up. On our way home, my son told the girls about his magic, “Watch,” he says, “God, can you make it stop raining?”

Sure enough, the rain trickles out and the sky clears. The kids run into the house without a drop of water touching them. I sat in the car in awe. Did I really believe what just happened? My son believed, and the universe catered to his belief.

In magic, we must have childlike trust and belief for it to truly work. If you believe, then it is so.

In honor of cultivating the magic in our lives, here are our Well-Life Maintenance Goals for August.

Spiritual: Believe in your dreams. Do something, a small step, to move you closer to your goals. Call upon the magic that exists all around you to assist you in making your dreams come true.

Mental: Read one of you favorite books from childhood. Get in touch with the child within and connect to his or her needs. My favorite book was Green Eggs and Ham … looking forward to reading it again, or having one of my kids read it to me.

Emotional: Let your emotions join the party. As children, we do this naturally. If we are happy … we laugh. If we are sad … we cry. If we are mad … we scream. Do not abandon all self-control, but allow yourself to express what you feel.

Physical: What can you do to improve the health of your physical being? There is always something we can add (ex. more veggies) or subtract (ex. less chips). Find out what your body needs and do it.

Welcome to Uplift at UPTOWN. If you are just joining us this week, my name is Anita Kopacz. I am an author and spiritual adviser with a passion to see people thrive! Collective energy possesses a divine power that can remove stubborn obstacles and open locked doors. My intention is to join our UPTOWN family in spirit and forge our return to healthy living. With the Well-Life Maintenance Program, together we will take small steps in four areas of our lives to improve our quality of living. The four areas include Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, and Physical. You can find more in my book, Finding Your Way: Alphabetical Keys to the Divine.
