May 11 marks the 31st anniversary of the passing of Robert Nesta Marley, more famously known as Bob Marley. The St. Ann parish-native has gone down in history as the world’s most popular reggae artist, as he brought the music genre beyond his home island of Jamaica to a mainstream, international audience. A documentary chronicling his life titled Marley, produced by son Ziggy Marley, is currently playing in selected theaters nationwide.
In celebration of Bob’s life and as Jamaica also commemorates its 50th anniversary of its independence from Britain this August, UPTOWN salutes 10 other well known Jamaicans.
