Winfrey received an honorary degree from Spelman in 1993 and will receive the college’s National Community Service Award at this year’s graduation.

Earlier this week, director Lee Daniels (Precious) confirmed that Winfrey has been cast in The Butler, a film centered around a Black man (Eugene Allen) who worked as a butler in the White House, from 1952 to 1986.
