NBC has ordered a pilot based on comedian Jerrod Carmichael‘s stand-up, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The as yet untitled, multicamera comedy from Universal Television is inspired by Carmichael’s comedy and his relationship with his girlfriend and family. The show was originally developed last pilot season and narrowly missed the cut in May. It was shot as a low-budget presentation, but garnered a lot of support internally. Now, after some retooling, it is NBC’s first official pilot order for the 2015-2016 pilot season.
The delay may prove beneficial for Carmichael who has since garnered some notoriety. He had an HBO stand-up special directed by Spike Lee. He also appeared in the film Neighbors, which he worked on with Nick Stoller who is co-producing and co-writing the script on the NBC pilot. Ravi Nandan is also listed as a co-producer.
The new pilot will begin filming in December in Los Angeles.
