A Delaware mother was arrested after her 4-year-old daughter brought over 200 bags of heroin to day care and passed them out to other children, thinking they were candy, according to police.
According to investigators, the toddler unknowingly brought the bags of drugs to the daycare inside a backpack that her mother, 30-year-old Ashley Tull, gave her. Police said Tull gave her daughter the bag after her other backpack was destroyed by a family pet.
When the staff at Hickory Tree Child Care Center on Hickory Tree Lane in Selbyville noticed children with packets of a powdery white substance, state troopers and medics were called. Police said a total of 249 bags of heroin, labeled ‘Slam,’ were found inside the backpack.
Investigators later determined the substance, weighing 3.735 grams, was heroin. Several children were taken to area hospitals as a precautionary measure and were released after being examined.
Tull was apprehended by police upon arrival at the daycare. She was taken into custody after being interviewed.
Tull, who is also the mother of a 9-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, is charged with maintaining a drug property and endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned and released after posting $6,000 bail.
