Several dozen people took to Powell Symphony Hall in midtown St. Louis Saturday night to protest the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. The peaceful protest, which has now gone viral, interrupted a performance of the St. Louis Symphony.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, musicians were getting ready to perform after intermission when demonstrators began to sing “Requiem for Mike Brown.” Protestors in the balcony unfurled three banners related to Brown’s shooting as attendees looked on, some clapping in support while others sat in silence.
A symphony spokesperson says about 50 people participated in the demonstration and they all had tickets for Saturday’s performance.
After approximately five minutes, the protest ended with demonstrators leaving voluntarily. St. Louis Police say they received no calls about the incident.
