A new dance workout is taking the nation by storm, getting women’s bodies moving to the hottest songs all while encouraging self-confidence.
The Vixen Workout, created by former Miami Heat dancer Janet Jones, mixes upbeat, workouts with sultry dances and even expletives and verbal self-affirmations.
Jones’ business grossed nearly $1.5 million in its first year, popularized through social media and word of mouth. The dance classes has expanded nationally with fitness concerts in Miami and New York, which host nearly 500 women each. The class sells out in hours.
The workout has a nightclub feel, complimented with low lighting, strobe lights, foggy mirrors. The beats of Beyonce, J.Lo, Busta Rhymes and other high-octane singers blast through the speakers. The moves and music selected are meant to empower women, making them feel like stars, she says.
Jones teaches a variety of choreography to the newest hip-hop, R&B songs and house music. Attendees, better known as her Vixen Army, are encouraged to wear tights, funky T-shirts and sneaker wedges, with wild hair, and painted lips .
In Miami, classes costs $15 and in New York, $18, for hourlong sessions.
