Express Starbucks? Sounds delightful. Starbucks Corp. is planning to put a new twist on the brand by catering to busy bee commuters and coffee-maniac students with smaller, “express-style” stores. The Starbucks shops will reduce its menu and utilize digital payments and mobile ordering systems to hurry along buying the process.
The plan is to start next year in New York to give customers a feel for a drive-thru experience. Starbucks stores with drive-through windows have higher sales growth than stores without drive-through service, according to The Wall Street Journal. Starbucks is also planning to expand with plans to open 100 new stores in the next five years.

Back in December, Starbucks revealed that it would be opening a new store with limited brands of coffee under the Reserve name. “It’s going to be this mix of roasting, manufacturing and retailing in one café,” said Starbucks spokeswoman Haley Drage. “It’s going to be massive: 15,000 square feet. It’s really going to be an immersive experience to our customers.”
