The NYPD shot and killed a sex offender, who had been on the run for over two years after skipping bail in California, in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village Monday. The shootout included federal marshals and the police.

Last week, CNN’s “The Hunt” featured Charles Mozdir, who was hiding from the law after molesting two boys under the age of 7. It is believed that a viewer revealed his location after viewing his story on the series.

The shooting occurred just after 1 p.m. in the West Village near New York University. A fugitive apprehension task force attempted to serve a warrant at a local smoke shop where it is believed that Mozdir was working. Mozdir pulled a revolver on the officers and shot two U.S. marshals and an NYPD detective. Mozdir was also shot during the altercation.

UPTOWN_revolverSources say one of the marshals was shot in the leg and the NYPD detective was shot three times, according to Daily Mail. All four victims went to Bellevue Hospital, where Mozdir later died. Mozdir also had 20 more rounds of ammunition in his pockets.

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton has remained mum on how the U.S. Marshals task force received the tip of Mozdir’s whereabouts.

Mozdir had been considered armed and dangerous since a roommate told police that he had two guns and threatened to kill himself, as well as the father of one of his victims. Law enforcement had been trailing him from California into Mexico, before their search led them to the southern United States and finally New York City.
