Police in Charlotte, N.C., believe they may have found the remains of a missing teacher and have charged her boyfriend with murder.

Police held a press conference Thursday morning to announce they may have found Bianca Tanner’s remains in a wooded area in Southwest Charlotte. Tanner’s boyfriend, Angelo Smith Jr. has been charged in her murder.

The search has been ongoing for Tanner since she was reported missing on June 8 by Smith. Police say phone and bank records have stopped and her car has not left the last place she was seen that day.

31 year old Tanner had just moved to Charlotte from Greensboro. She was working in Greensboro as a second grade teacher for Guilford County Schools.

Tanner has a 3-year-old son, who was with her in Charlotte the weekend she disappeared. The child is currently in the custody of his father outside of Charlotte. According to a police search warrant, Tanner’s son told investigators that Smith had struck Tanner with a belt and “hurt Mommy in the face.”

Smith also faces a delinquency of a minor charge. He was arrested last week in Chicago and extradited to Charlotte wearing his Kappa Alpha Psi paraphernalia on Monday. Smith bonded out of jail Wednesday evening.

A medical examiner will confirm the identity of the remains found.
