After bystanders captured a vicious attack on a New Jersey woman in front of her toddler son, the suspect surrendered to authorities on Monday. Latia Harris, 25, beat Catherine Ferreira behind a McDonald’s in Salem, according to the video recording.
The women worked at the fast food chain where the assault happened and had an on-going beef. Harris was allegedly angry at Ferreira for making jokes that she was romantically involved with one of their coworkers. Harris confronted Ferreira while still on-duty and wearing her McDonald’s uniform. The amateur cell phone footage caught Harris punching Ferreira at least 20 times, kicking her, and spitting on her before leaving.
As if this story wasn’t sad enough, Ferreira’s 2-year-old son Xzavion Ortiz watched. He attempted to defend his mother by kicking at Harris.
“I feel sorry for her,” Ferreira told the South Jersey Times. “She has two kids, and all of this — over what? Nothing.”
Ferreira suffered a broken nose, lacerations to the face, and bruises.
Harris has been charged with aggravated assault and two counts of terrorist threats. She is held on $35,000 bond.
