Beyoncé is returning to HBO or should we call it H-Bey-O. Last year, Beyoncé had one of the network’s highest-rated documentaries ever with Beyoncé: Life is but a Dream. So it was only right that HBO is back in the Bey business.
Don’t expect the series to be scripted, as Beyoncé is sticking with what she does best — singing and dancing, not acting. The concert series, entitled “Beyoncé: X10,” will debut June 29, with a new four-minute segment debuting every Sunday night at 8:55 p.m. (ET/PT), immediately prior to a new episode in the final season of “True Blood” at 9:00 p.m. The performances were shot live in various cities during her recently completed Mrs. Carter Show World Tour.
The sold out tour began April 15, 2013 in Belgrade, Serbia and finished on March 27, 2014 in Lisbon. It included 132 concerts in 27 countries and 69 cities. Drawing 1.8 million fans over the six legs of the global tour, it was the highest-grossing female solo tour of 2013.
Beyoncé will perform the following songs in the clips of “Beyoncé: X10″: “Blow/Cherry,” “Drunk in Love,” “Ghost/Haunted,” “Flawless/Yoncé,” “Get Me Bodied/Baby Boy/Diva,” “Girls,” “Heaven,” “Partition,” “Why Don’t You Love Me?” and “XO.”
This seems like a win-win for Bey and HBO. The On the Run tour with Jay Z has had trouble selling tickets, and “Beyoncé: X10″ will quickly show fans what they’re missing. And the concert series will be a lead-in for “True Blood,” which has seen its ratings dwindle in the past seasons. Will you watch?
