At the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday, Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled new features for the iPhone, iPad and Mac computer systems.
Some of the most noteworthy new features for the iPhone include:
- Interactive notifications, where a user can respond to messages without leaving another app.
- The option to leave a group chat or mute the conversation with a new “Do Not Disturb” option
- A “quick type” feature offering predictive typing suggestions. For example, if you start typing, “Do you want to go to,” the phone will suggest “dinner” or “movie” as the next word. Currently, the suggestions are limited to spelling corrections.
- A “digital wallet” feature that will allow payment processing from your iPhone.
- A “HomeKit” where a user can control their garage doors, thermostats and other home systems.
- Fingerprint security system available on the iPhone 5s would now be available for outside parties and apps.
- “AirDrop”, where the iPhone and Mac can share files directly with each other.
- Built- in health management tool to help track vital signs, sleeping habits and diet.
- A double tap feature to list frequent contacts.
- “Handoff” feature, where a user can start an email on the iPhone, but finish it on the Mac.
Additional features for the Mac include:
- The storing and syncing of files of any type, not just those compatible with iCloud, similar to the file sharing host, Dropbox. iCloud storage will also be expanded.
- Ability to search the computer and Internet for files and data at once.
- Share songs, movies and books to other users directly to other Apple devices.
- More privacy controls for Mac’s Safari Internet browser.
The free updates will be available this fall. Are you excited for the new features?
