Memphis Grizzlies v San Antonio Spurs - Game One

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling is in hot water following the release of a nine-minute recording in which he’s involved in an argument with girlfriend V. Stiviano over her public association with Black people.

During the conversation, Sterling repeatedly asks his girlfriend to refrain from publicizing her contact with Blacks as she’s “a delicate White or a delicate Latina girl.” Stiviano is, ironically, Black and Mexican.

He also begs that she not bring Black people to Clippers games, including Hall of Famer Magic Johnson who posed for a picture with Stiviano on her Instagram. The photo has since been deleted.

TMZ plucked a few comments from the tape:

– “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?” (3:30)

– “You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want.  The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games.” (5:15)

– “I’m just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people.” (7:45)

– “…Don’t put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me.  And don’t bring him to my games.” (9:13)

Of course, this isn’t the first time Sterling has been labeled a racist. He’s been sued twice by the federal government for allegedly refusing to rent apartment to Blacks and Latinos. The owner was also sued by former Clippers exec Elgin Baylor for racial discrimination; a jury ruled in favor of Sterling.

While Sterling has yet to release an official statement on the matter, his estranged wife Shelly is reportedly “mortified” by his comments.
