Today in New York, BET announced its upcoming program lineup, including renewals of viewer favorites and a new scripted mini-series, titled “The Book of Negroes.”
Jason and Kelly Pitts, along with other cast members, are returning for the eighth season of ”The Game.” The highly successful mistress chronicle ”Being Mary Jane,” starring Gabrielle Union, gets renewed for a second season. The funny, fake reality show, “Real Husbands Of Hollywood,” starring Hollywood’s favorite actors and artists alongside comedian Kevin Hart, will return for a third season.
In addition to the network’s successful, established shows, BET unveils new programming. Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Aunjanue Ellis will star in ”The Book Of Negroes,” a historical drama based on the Commonwealth Prize winning novel of the same name by Lawrence Hill. The six-part miniseries documents the abduction of 11-year-old Aminita Diallo from West Africa and sale into slavery in South Carolina.
Diggy Simmons, son of hip hop royalty Rev Runfrom iconic group Run DMC, stars in the new scripted series, ”The Startup.” Also starring Teyana Taylor and Bria Murphy, the series follows Blake, played by Diggy, and friends as they struggle with fame and adulthood.
