The Space Jam sequel starring LeBron James may never get cleared for liftoff.
Last week, Deadline reported the NBA champ had signed on for a second installment of the animated sports flick that originally starred Michael Jordan. The 1996 movie grossed more than $230 million worldwide.
Despite Warner Bros. reported confirmation, James seems to have no idea about the upcoming project. In an interview with The Palm Beach Post, he stated:
“It’s news to me. I haven’t heard anything about it. Like I said, I’ve always loved Space Jam 1. It was one of my favorite movies growing up. If I have the opportunity, it’d be great. But that’s news to me. Obviously I don’t want to be on there with this thing on my nose [note: a reference to his currently bandaged, broken nose]. We’ll see what happens. [...] I haven’t heard about it. Maybe they’ve got it in my office. I haven’t been to my office in a while.”
There you have it, folks. What is certain is that James will go forward with his Starz sitcom Survivor’s Remorse later this year.
