A former Utah high school teacher has plead guilty to reduced charges after being accused of carrying on an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old female student, according to the Daily Mail.
Courtney Jarrell, 23, pleaded guilty Friday, Jan. 31, to three counts of misdemeanor sexual battery after agreeing to be stripped of her teaching license. Jarrell is awaiting sentencing, which is set for April 8. She faces up to three years behind bars, but prosecutors are not expected to seek jail time.
Jarrell’s attorney, Kenneth Brown, says the woman had a consensual relationship with the Riverton High School student and did not pressure the teen in the alleged acts, which include touching her genitals at different times at Jarrell’s home early last year.
The school district received a complaint in March of 2013 that Jarrell had sexual contact with one of her female students. Jarrell taught math at Riverton High School and coached the sophomore girls’ basketball team.
