The Weinstein Company is slowly but surely moving forward with the long-gestating Richard Pryor biopic.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Lee Daniels is considering tackling the project as a follow-up to his 2013 box office hit The Butler. The film studio will fully finance the biopic with Pryor’s widow, Jennifer Pryor, serving as producer. She is offering up more than 50 pages of her late husband’s personal journals to provide insight into his personal life and career.
Sources also add that Michael B. Jordan, Eddie Murphy and Damon Wayans are being eyed to take on the role of the legendary comedian. Murphy and Wayans have been attached to the project for quite some time, but it’s the possibility of Jordan that adds a fresh take to casting.
There is no word on when (or if) production will begin.
