Natural Hair Vs. Ol’ Man Winter

UPTOWN_woman_snowflakesCrisp, chilly wind, mixtures of snow and drizzling rain, and dry air can be a hassle to tackle for naturalistas. Each season presents its own hair adversities — your summer hair routine should differ greatly from the winter regimen. One must modify her hair routine to accommodate single digit temperatures, negative wind chill factors, and lake effect snow fall.

To win the battle against winter’s unforgiving dry air and bone-chilling breezes, protecting your hair is a must. Wool hats can be damaging to new growth and edges. Remedy? Sew a satin liner in your hat to protect it.

Combat dryness with moisturizer, which should be applied to your hair twice a day.

Leave-in conditioner is your best friend! Condition hair in the morning and night. If your hair is loose not locked, detangle hair only when wet and saturated with your favorite conditioner.

Choose stress free hairstyles to rock during the frosty months. Wash and go may have been your style of choice for the spring, but leaving the house with damp hair during winter makes it prone to freezing and breakage. Pick a style that requires minimal heat. Utilize braids, twists, even pin curls for your desired look, instead of scorching curling irons. When heat must be applied, use a heat protectant spray to battle split ends and breakage.
