The bold statistical reality is that the economic recession that started in 2008 has disproportionately affected African-Americans. A recent study by the Executive Leadership Council, an association composed of African-Americans in senior executive positions, revealed that many of its members have been dislocated in the recession. Moreover, finding a new position has proven more difficult than many expected, given the expressed desire of companies to have diversity at the top of their organizations. I have been asked at workshops and speeches if there is anything African- Americans can do to manage their vulnerability in this tight economy. I usually offer six suggestions.
