Fifty-year-old Philadelphia woman Sharolyn Jackson appeared alive two weeks after her family held funeral services and buried her.
After a social worker misidentified pictures of the dead woman as Ms. Jackson, the Medical Examiner’s Office signed a death certificate, allowing an undertaker to remove her body for funeral services and burial, a CBS affiliate reported.
Services were held on August 3rd and Ms. Jackson was laid to rest, or so the family thought. The mistake was revealed when the Jackson family received a phone call that Ms. Jackson was in a mental health facility.
While the family is excited about her return, the city has a bigger problem on their hands. Who is buried in Ms. Jackson’s plot?
A Philadelphia Health Department representative contends that all proper procedures were followed and now says city officials are expected to seek an order to exhume the unknown body so steps can be taken to identify her.
