In the words of Spike Lee: bet on the mule.
The famed director surpassed his $1.25 million Kickstarter goal earlier this week for his “newest” and “hottest” joint to date with the help of more than 5,500 backers. At $1.3 million raised and counting, Lee hit his financial target with five days to spare and is continuing to bring in the bucks until the Aug. 21 deadline.
“We made our goal. Thank you, Jesus. Thanks to all supporters. Thank you everybody at 40 Acres and a Mule [production company] for making this happen,” he said in a YouTube video Friday. “This is a historic moment.”

While details surrounding the project are minimal, he has described the project as “funny, sexy and bloody” and British actress Zaraah Abrahams (Waterloo Road) has been cast as the female lead.
