Issa Rae, star and creator of popular webseries “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl,” has signed on to star in a new HBO comedy series. The project is billed as “the awkward experiences and racy tribulations of a modern African-American woman,” so basically we’re getting a version “ABG” on cable TV!
Rae will co-write the series with comedian Larry Wilmore, who is probably most recognizable as one of the correspondents on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” Wilmore will act as executive producer with Rae receiving co-executive producing credits.
Rae’s star has had an incredible rise since “ABG” shot to internet fame. She was recently named to Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list, she is currently penning a memoir/collection of personal essays for HarperCollins, and last season she wrote a comedy script for ABC and Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland production company.
Announcing the project on her Instagram page, Rae thanked her fans: “Here we go! Couldn’t have had the opportunity without your constant support. Thanks guys :)”
