Back in 2008 when Barack Obama was nothing more than a presidential hopeful, he told “Entertainment Tonight” he would want Will Smith to portray him in a movie about his life.
Unfortunately for Smith, rapper Drake is looking to sneak in and steal the show.
Drake told reporters at the Sundance Film Festival this week that he is interested in playing the POTUS and is prepared.
“I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon because I could play him. That’s the goal,” he said. “I watch all the addresses. Anytime I see him on TV, I don’t change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I’m pretty good at impressions.”
Drake says he’s been reading scripts for a while and wants to play the would-be iconic role for a younger generation.
“I’ve been reading scrips for a while. I want to do something great,” he said. “I want to do something for my culture, the younger people who are still in tune with everything going on. I’m actually writing with my friends right now.”
Before Drake exploded onto the music scene, he played Jimmy Brooks on “Degrassi: The Next Generation.”
