Family members of the late Amy Winehouse are none to happy with Jean Paul Gaultier’s recent dedication to the “Rehab” singer at Paris Fashion Week.
Mitch Winehouse, Amy’s father, recently told The Sun that the fashion designer’s spring/summer collection was not authorized, not to mention displeasing to the family.
“The family was upset to see those pictures, they were a total shock,” Mitch said.”To see her image lifted wholesale to sell cloths was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on. We’re proud of her influence on fashion but find black veils on models, smoking cigarettes with a barbershop quartet singing her music in bad taste.”
This past Monday marked the six-month anniversary of Winehouse’s death.
Attendees and celebrities have both criticized Gaultier for his controversial theme; close friend Kelly Osbourne called the idea “lucratively selfish and distasteful.”
Gaultier insists that he meant no harm, telling the Associated Press that while he never met Winehouse, he felt they shared the same style.
Winehouse died July 23, 2011 of “death by misadventure,” with too much alcohol in her system. She was 27.
