Roland Martin is waving goodbye to CNN as the latest news contributor to leave the network.
The journalist/media personality confirmed the news with a Twitter follower Tuesday morning, stating his last day will be April 6. The reason behind his departure seems to be CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker, who began his assignment in January to help the sinking network.
“New boss wants his own peeps,” he wrote. CNN spokesperson Edie Emery confirmed that Martin’s contract will end in the first week of April.
During his time with the network, Martin contributed to several shows that included The Situation Room and AC360, among others. He also hosts TV One’s Washington Watch with Roland Martin, which covers the important issues affecting the Black community.
Martin has yet to make an official statement.
In late February, fellow reporter Soledad O’Brien parted ways with CNN’s morning show but will continue to work on documentaries (Black in America, Latino in America) with the network on a nonexclusive basis.
CNN has also let go long-time contributors James Carville, Mary Matalin and Bill Bennett.
