The murder of a man shot dead in a Queens basement apartment on Saturday has ended New York City’s nine-day murder-free streak, according to police.

NYPD officers arrived at the building around 6 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a man bleeding inside. Authorities discovered the unidentified victim unconscious with a gunshot wound to his head; the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of Saturday night, no arrests had been made.

No homicides were reported in the area’s five boroughs between Jan. 15 and Jan. 25, likely a result of bone-chilling temperatures over the last several days.

“To the extent that weather plays a role, great,” said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly on Friday. “We are rooting for more cold weather.”

The streak broke a previous eight-day record after superstorm Sandy in late October 2012.
