Joe Rickey Hundley of Hayden, Idaho has been charged with assaulting a minor after he allegedly uttered a racial slur and slapped a 2-year-old boy on a flight to Atlanta for crying during the plane’s descent, reports CNN.

According to court documents, the boy and his mother Jessica Bennett were traveling from Minneapolis to Atlanta on Feb. 8 on Delta Flight 721 when the young child began to cry because of altitude change.

Bennett was reportedly trying to soothe him when Hundley, who was seated next to the mother and son, told her to “shut that n*gger baby up.” Hundley then turned around and slapped the boy in the face with an open hand, resulting in a scratch below his right eye.

Passengers on the plane assisted Bennett after the incident and one of them heard the racial slur and witnessed the alleged assault.

Delta Air Lines spokesman Paul Skrbec said the company is cooperating with the federal investigation of the incident and has apologized “for any inconvenience this caused for the passengers onboard.” Hundley has since been suspended from his job pending the investigation.

Hundley and his attorney have yet to comment on the assault.

Actor Forest Whitaker found himself at the center of a shoplifting situation at a New York City deli last week while grabbing lunch at the celeb hotstop. Only problem: the Academy Award-winning actor wasn’t snatching sausages.

According to the New York Daily News, Whitaker was reportedly stopped and frisked by an “overzealous” employee at Milano Market on Manhattan’s Upper West Side on Friday (Feb. 15) while walking out of the deli. The unidentified worked claimed the actor stole something from the store’s shelves.

“It was around lunchtime and the store was packed,” said another employee who refused to give his name. “We were like 50 people deep. The person walked in and out really quickly so our person just made a mistake. The employee apologized immediately. It was an honest mistake. I’ve been here 14 years and nothing like this has ever happened.”

Whitaker’s publicist Jennifer Plante said the incident was “upsetting,” given the fact that all he did was walk into the deli.

“What is most unfortunate about this situation is the inappropriate way store employees are treating patrons of their establishment,” she continued.

Whitaker refused police involvement, partly because the employee was afraid of getting fired. The actor simply asked that in the future, the store treats the public in a “fair and just manner.”

Michelle Obama jokingly says a mid-life crisis is what inspired her new haircut with bangs.

The first lady revealed the new hairstyle last month on her 49th birthday, which came a few days before the festivities for President Barack Obama’s second inauguration.

Mrs. Obama was asked about the new haircut during an interview with talk-show host Rachael Ray.

Said Mrs. Obama: “This is my mid-life crisis.” She added that she cut her bangs because she can’t get a sports car and won’t be allowed to bungee jump.

The interview was conducted via Skype and is scheduled to air on Wednesday. The Rachel Ray show released excerpts on Monday.

President Barack Obama is set to deliver the commencement speech at Morehouse College on May 19, according to a White House official.

That Atlanta-area university was selected to welcome Obama because it is “one of the nation’s leading historical black colleges and universities [and] is among the best and brightest institutions of higher education in the country. Known for its high standard for excellence in learning and social consciousness, Morehouse is home to a long list of notable alumni that spans the last three centuries.”

Of course, the school’s laundry list of notable alumni include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Spike Lee, Rev. Calvin O. Butts III and others.

“The president’s life story trumpets an ethic that we try to instill in all Morehouse men, namely excellence without apology or compromise,” said Morehouse President John Silvanus Wilson Jr. “It’s a good thing to have him here for that reason.”

Wilson noted that the president’s visit will also be marked by the 50th anniversary of King’s ‘I Have a Dream” speech, the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and the 100th anniversary of the name Morehouse College (previously Atlanta Baptist College).

This will be Obama’s second commencement speech at a historically black college. He spoke at Hampton University in May 2010.

Mississippi lawmakers have officially ratified the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which banned slavery in 1865.

One hundred forty-eight years after three-fourths of the states voted to approve the amendment, Mississippi’s legislature finally took steps to fix the glaring oversight last month. According to the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, the decision was inspired by the Oscar-nominated film “Lincoln,” which depicts the 16th president’s efforts to enact the amendment.

In a new memoir The Soundtrack of My Life, the music industry legend reveals his interest in men after his failed marriage in the ’80s. “After my second marriage failed, I met a man who was also grounded in music. Having only had loving relationships and sexual intimacy with women, I opened myself up to the possibility that I could have that with a male, and I found that I could.” He contines, “I never stopped being attracted to women. Bisexuality is misunderstood; the adage is that you’re either straight or gay or lying, but that’s not my experience. To call me anything other than bisexual would be inaccurate.” Soundtrack of My Life hits stores Tuesday (Feb. 19).
• “Suit & Tie” buddies Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z will travel across the pond this summer to headline the U.K.’s Wireless festival at the Olympic Park. The concert series will feature Timberlake on Friday, July 12 with Snoop Dogg, Trey Songz, John Legend and Frank Ocean. Jay-Z will take the stage that Saturday (July 13)  alongside Emeli Sandé, Rita Ora, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Fresh and Calvin Harris.
• In between filming for NBC’s Smash, Jennifer Hudson has found time to get back to the music with her third album. On Monday, the singer tweeted pictures of her and producer Salaam Remi hard at work in the studio. “Ok ! Here we go guys! First day of recording my album!! @Salaamremi is everything !!” she wrote. “I had the best day in the studio with @salaamremi! He let me be me!” The untitled project will be the follow-up to 2011′s I Remember Me.
• And finally, Kandi Burruss has officially debuted her new single “Stay Prayed Up” featuring Marvin Sapp to the disapproval of a few church-going critics. The industry vet and reality star addressed the song, a departure from “Bedroom Kandi”, on her official Facebook page: “I knew when I decided to do it that I would be criticized. That’s to be expected. I’m a single mom that had a child out of wedlock, I speak openly about sex on #KandiKoatedNights, I have #BedroomKandi, etc… I’m very honest about who I am. My great grand father & my grandfather were Bishops in The Church of God Holiness. I believe in God but I have always struggled with the rules of the church just like a lot of people. NBC has released the first teaser for its midseason drama “Hannibal,” which features Laurence Fishburne and premieres April 4 in the Thursday 10 p.m. slot.

Mads Mikkelsen takes on the role of Dr. Hannibal Lecter opposite Hugh Dancy as FBI criminal profiler Will Graham, based on the characters from Thomas Harris’s novel “Red Dragon.”

Fishurne, in his first series role since CBS’ ‘CSI,” will play Jack Crawford, head of the FBI Behavioral Sciences Unit, and Graham’s boss.

BET founder Robert L. Johnson and television/film producer Tracey Edmonds are counting down the days until the launch of their new faith-focused digital network, Alright TV. The family-oriented channel was created in collaboration with YouTube.

Alright TV will debut Sunday, March 31st with comedies, talk, reality and music programming, as well as streaming Sunday church services from around the country. The channel is expected to reach aspirational and inspirational goals for viewers of all ages.

“I am very excited about the launch of Alright TV and the broad array of diversified producer-generated content that has been produced and made available through the channel,” Johnson said. “Tracey is an award-winning producer and I am confident that viewers will enjoy the new digital series that she and her team have developed featuring well known artists and personalities from the faith-based, reality, sports and entertainment industries. Alright TV’s content and collaboration with YouTube represents the spectrum of new and exciting opportunities for consumers and advertisers.”

Edmonds added, “There has been, and for some time, a lack of availability of faith-based, family friendly programming on television. Alright TV, in collaboration with YouTube’s global platform, fills this gap by making the genre available to everyone.”

Alright TV will utilize Our Stories Films, the first Black-owned film production studio.

Former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. pleaded guilty Wednesday in a federal courtroom in Washington, D.C., to conspiring to illegally spend about $750,000 in campaign money on personal uses, including a Rolex, pricey memorabilia, furs and other luxury items.

“For years I lived off my campaign. I used money that should have been for campaign purposes for personal purposes,” Jackson said in court, as he broke down several times, appearing contrite.

In explaining his decision to plead guilty, Jackson said: “I have no interest in wasting the taxpayers’ time or their money.”

“Tell everybody I’m sorry I let them down,” he said.

Jackson Jr. faces up to five years in prison at sentencing when he is sentenced in late June. He was joined in the courtroom by his wife, former Ald. Sandi Jackson, who is expected to plead guilty Wednesday afternoon to a single tax charge for filing false tax returns — as well as by his father, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, his mother, Jacqueline, and other family members.

Dwyane Wade‘s ex-wife Siohvaughn Wade is clearly not backing down anytime soon in the ongoing custody battle between herself and the Miami Heat superstar. Her latest claims accuse Dwyane of depriving their children of life-saving asthma medication, according to TMZ.

Siohvaughn recently filed court documents stating that the NBA champ “has never obtained any asthma inhalers or asthma nebulizer machines for the children since [Dwyane] was awarded children in his custody on March 11, 2011.”

The claim continues, “[Dwyane] recklessly failed to provide the five and ten-year-old children with any medication for a life-threatening illness.” Siohvaughn says the former couple’s two boys suffer from the condition and require constant supervision.

Siohvaughn alleges Dwyane is putting their kids’ lives in danger and has asked a court to order him to be more attentive. She has also asked for more time with her children, as Dwyane is “continuously and willfully making every effort to alienate the children from [her].”

After divorcing in 2010, Wade was granted sole custody of the couple’s children in March 2011. Back in June, Siohvaughn was arrested on attempted child abduction charges, one count of unlawful visitation interference and one count of resisting arrest.

Singer/actress Michelle Williams has nabbed her very own reality show with Entertainment One Television that will document the release of her upcoming solo gospel album, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

My Sister’s Keeper will follow the Destiny’s Child alum and her sisters as she prepares to debut her latest material. Williams will serve as executive producer alongside Tara Long, Phil Thornton, Jeff Hevert and John Dee Hammond.
